There is a girl that never goes out

attempting to stumble gracefully towards thirty

Yesterday was spent knitting for a few hours in the morning and obsessively playing tetris and brain challenge for more than a few hours. Not the best way to have a productive day but I did pass a ton of shadow levels in tetris, get some A+ in brain challenge and listen to some awesome music (thanks to itunes genius). I have truly reverted back to my teenage self.

I am getting close on my staff accountant sweater. I am halfway done with the second sleeve and just have the button band to do. Pics to come as soon as I finish (probably as I am staff accounting, banging my head on the desk repeatedly). Speaking of staff accounting, it is now January so it means I have to pull at least 48 a week to prepare our books for the audit. This year is different so hopefully I will only have to spend extra time here for January and a bit of February (fingers crossed that no one quits quite yet or is stealing).

I am moving slowly along on my 52 books in 52 weeks. I did listen to Steve Martin’s “Born Standing Up” on Friday while working on my yummy socks. It was very interesting as I didn’t know much about how he got his start and his stand up. Listening to it on audiobook was the best choice I made because he would act out his bits. I am also listening to Jane Green’s “The Beach House” on audiobook. I love listening to non fiction books but fiction rubs me the wrong way. The reader for this specific book makes all the women sound whiny and it’s killing me. Normally I love Jane Green’s books and so far this book is okay. It is a bit different from her other books but maybe the listening experience is changing how I feel about it.

Okay back to work. Hopefully all will be right with the world. Laura (Loud) is back so we can get back with regular Loud and Mouthy activities and I am going to try to blog more there.

Wow. Intense. Fun. Crazy. Good. December 29, 2008

I have had the best four day weekend ever (with little stress). Christmas was amazing and super intense. Since my siblings and I are getting older, our Christmas has expanded to include my sisters’ two boyfriends and a child. It’s really fun and great but there is so many people around that it is overwhelming. My parents went way overboard again this year and I got a wii. My four day weekend has also included a redonk amount of tetris and itunes genius. This morning, I beat my two records I had.

I finished a few more gifts on Christmas Eve so I feel I did come out ahead. I need to make a list of projects that I need to accomplish this year and use yarn from my stash. I say it all the time but it needs to happen. It becomes a bit impossible when one of your besties work at the lys and I spend tons of time there.

So I suppose if I were to make a new years resolutions:

-make list of knitting/crochet projects that I would like to do this year and use up as much stash as possible (this needs to be fleshed out to make it doable.)

-Commit to reading the 52 books in 52 weeks. (I joined a group on Ravelry for this. I hope I can keep up.) First book “Madam Secretary”

-Look into going back to school. Take the small step and try.

-Listen to more music. Find some new bands for goodness sakes. Be openminded.

-See Morrissey, Ryan Adams, YYY and several other bands if possible.

-Spend more time with friends and family and be a girl that does go out.

Anyway, that’s it for now. Have to get back to work. Today is my last day of physical therapy, which is exciting.

Current Listening (random): The Cure “Primary”

Current Project: Yummy socks

I whined (and by whining I mean held back the tears) a bit this morning when I woke up since I had to come back to my job and still didn’t maximize my weekend. I didn’t speak to anyone yesterday. The only talking I did out loud was to myself, CVS pharmacist and to the drive through operator at Wendy’s. I did finish my hourglass red sweater yesterday. It’s going to be modeled tonight after work by me and I am making my mom take the pictures. I can’t master the self pic yet. Anyway, after the whining/tears, I worked on my pair of socks some more and decided that the first record I listen to today at work is Patti Smith’s Horses. It has worked well and I am now on to PJ Harvey’s 4 Track Demos. I am ready to stab someone in the liver with a dpn and move on with my day and week. No need to mope in the messy house in my jammies.

Inspired by “Perfect From Now On” I am attempting (slowly) to list all the shows I have been to. I am going to start with this year and move backwards.

2008:

Alkaline Trio

Black Angels, The Start and that shitty band before the Start

New York Dolls

Girl in a Coma

Upcoming: Henry Rollins spoken word and Santogold!

1001 albums you must hear before you die. September 1, 2008

A couple years ago, I received this book as a gift. I am a music fan and an obsessive one when it comes to certain bands and artists. I have always wanted to expand my knowledge, my taste, and my collection. For a few months now, I have been pondering this book and the idea of listening to every single record in this book. I decided I am going to do it and listen to all 1001 records in their entirety actively, even the Kiss, Eminem, Korn, Areosmith, Limp Bizkit records listed. Those just might kill me.

I went through the entire book and marked down how many of those 1001 I have listened to in their entirety and remembered them. There was only 154 that I recall listening to in their entirety. There are records in the book that I have heard bits of and maybe even most of the record but not the whole thing. In the book, there are several artists that I have always wanted to check out and hear but never got around to. I will probably start with the records I have since those are good and listenable and I love most of those records to death and start sprinkling in the records my dad has on vinyl and beg and borrow from friends and the library. My brother will probably never let it go that I have to borrow those Eminem records. Fuck. Will it be worth it? Can I skip those?

I did the first podcast with Loud and Mouthy. It went pretty good I feel. My voice is annoying and I am too most of the time but whatevs. After we got some ice cream and took a drive to listen to what we recorded and figure out what to edit. We were headed to Mt Charleston but I got super nervous about driving up there and got a headache so we came back. I went to bed and started reading “Perfect From Now On” by John Sellers. I adore it and can’t wait to get to Appendix A to read all of the lists because I too am obsessed with them. I think my first post on LoudandMouthy.com will be a lists post. Also, I am searching for a “supergroup” that works. My Zwan argument doesn’t hold up very well.
